Miller
Complete Buffoonery
Fred’s Crack / 2005
One man named Mike Miller, armed with a keytar, has put together a collection of the most uncomfortably funny songs you’ll hear for awhile. Miller has a look like he was the popular goofy guy in his high school band, but there is no denying his lyrical cleverness on songs involving topics like “Hirschsprung’s Disease” (look it up) and amputee dating (“Missing Him, Missing Limb”). Most of the songs are quite catchy, with even lines like “I’ve never mastered anything/like mastering a thing like master-baiting” hard not to sing along to.
Throughout the album one gets the feeling that Miller enjoys the chance to be crudely shocking and politically incorrect, but it’s apparent that the main focus of the album is not reckless commentary, but offbeat humor. Whether it’s the troubling mystery that every guy tries to solve when figuring out where to put one of their spooning arms, or the evasive pickup line that will get to the point quickly and find an amorous conclusion, Miller is here to amusingly speculate over electronic keytar beats. If you’ve busted a gut over the songs from MC Chris or those guys from thelonelyisland.com, Miller will keep the laughs rolling.
