Misfits meet the Nutley Brass
Fiend Club Lounge
Misfits Records/2005
There are a load of bands rehashing the
sounds of the old days. This includes the post-punk movement, a couple
of disco-sounding acts, and a bevy of psych rockers. The Nutley Brass,
however, has carved a niche in the elevator/Mantovani realm of music.
The group, solely composed of Sam Elwitt and a keyboard, takes on the
catalog of the Misfits this time around, pacifying such songs as “Last
Caress,” “Teenagers From Mars,” and “Skulls”.
A bouncy disc that is aimed at giggles
and perhaps the geriatric portion of the Misfits fanbase, the Nutley
Brass’s latest certainly falls under the category of a novelty album.
Through chorus and verse, the record aptly covers the Misfits’ songs not
only in structure, but in length. Running at a total of 23 minutes and
eleven tracks, it acts like the peppermint you take after finishing a
long meal at a fancy restaurant; it’s quick, it satisfies your curiosity
sweet tooth, but how often you sample its taste probably depends on how
often you go out to eat at ritzy places.
